Jillian McCabe Guilty Of Killing Her 6-Year Old Son

On Monday, February 22nd, 34-year old Jillian McCabe plead guilty to murder. She admitted to throwing her 6-year old son, London, from the Yaquina Bay Bridge on November 3rd, causing him to drown. She received a sentence of life in prison, with mandatory 25-years. The charges of 1st degree manslaughter and aggravated murder were dropped as a result of the plea agreement. The state played a video from London’s memorial service for the court before sentencing. During the video, McCabe sobbed and laughed while watching scenes from her son’s life. At sentencing, her attorney, Deborah Burdick, told the judge that Mrs. McCabe suffered from mental illness at the time that she killed her son, but admitted to being guilty. When asked if she wanted to make a statement, she said, “I love you London and I will always be your mom.” London was a kindergartner at Crestview Heights School in Waldport. He and his family had recently come to Seal Rock from the Hood River area.

Mother Arrested After Throwing Her Child Off The Yaquina Bay Bridge

At about 6:25pm last night a female called the 9 – 1 – 1 dispatch center to report that she had thrown her six year old son off the Yaquina Bay Bridge. Members of the Newport Police Department, Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office and the Newport Fire Department responded to the scene. The Yaquina Bay Bridge was closed to all traffic for about an hour. The US Coast Guard rescue helicopter also immediately responded to the area, arriving in minutes. Sheriff’s Deputies marine patrol along with the Coast Guard and officers on both sides of the bay began searching for the victim’s body. Since there was an incoming tide the search was concentrated up the bay.

At 10:23pm a call was received of a body spotted in the water at the Embarcadero Resort. Officers responded and determined that the body was that of the victim identified as 6-year old London McCabe. His mother 34-year old Jillian M. McCabe from Seal Rock had been located at the Yaquina Bay Bridge earlier after reporting throwing her son in the bay. She was being interviewed by detectives. After the recovery of her son’s body she was subsequently arrested by detectives for Aggravated Murder , Murder, and 1st Degree Manslaughter.

She was booked into the Lincoln County jail without incident and her bail was set at $750,000. Newport Police officers were assisted by the Lincoln County Major Crime Team which is made up of members from the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, Lincoln City, and Toledo Police, Oregon State Police and the Lincoln County District Attorney ’s Office.
